Gilchrist Model 2

Steve Gilchrist is known around the world as the leading builder of contemporary bluegrass mandolins, and he is right here in Warrnambool, Australia! Steve was highly influential to my discovery of the mandolin some years back when I called into his workshop with my (one of two solids ever built) Gilchrist Les Paul.

Steve showed me some of his mandolins and educated me about the instrument. He played me some contemporary mandolin recordings and I was blown away. A year later I ordered this Model 2, not realizing it would completely change my musical landscape.

I can't say enough about the wonderful tone and finish. When I bought my 1923 Gibson F-2 back from New York years later, I realized the hype about Gilchrist was true, as the two sound remarkably similar.
